New Mexico Green Fireballs

A prolonged series of bright green fireball events began in late 1948 near Albuquerque and continued through 1951. Unlike meteors, they flew horizontal trajectories at consistent altitudes, did not decelerate, and left no meteorite residue. They were observed by atomic scientists from Los Alamos and Sandia Labs, pilots, and astronomers. Lincoln LaPaz, director of the University of New Mexico Meteorite Observatory, concluded they were not natural phenomena. Classified by Project Grudge as unknown.
